Award Winning Classic Wines Go Green
Paul Dolan Vineyards
The “Greatest Hits” Series is one beloved classic after another, performed by music’s most prodigious talents. What better way to experience nearly 100 of the greatest pieces ever composed than paired with the wine world’s own “Greatest Hits”—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon!
Tonight’s performance opens with Paul Dolan Vineyards Chardonnay. This wine doesn’t hide behind the influence of oak—rather, the bold fruit flavors shine through and make this wine a perfect pair with the more virtuosic piano performances in the Greatest Hits albums. Of particular note? Vladimir Horowitz’s soaring rendition of Franz Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2”—Fingers fly across the keys just as tropical fruit and citrus aromas waft out of the glass. Glenn Gould’s bright interpretation of Bach’s Italian Concerto also provides a beautiful soundtrack for experiencing this wine—flavors of tart pineapple, lemon zest and toffee are brilliantly showcased over the quick-tempo of the “Presto” movement. If you are feeling a little cheeky, start the evening out with a glass of this Chardonnay and Mario Lanza’s enthusiastic “Drink Drink Drink”!
An evening of wine and music continues with the Paul Dolan Vineyard’s Pinot Noir. A harmonious blend of flavors, this Pinot is a wonderful accompaniment to the more contemplative performances in the "Greatest Hits" series. Jascha Heifetz’s performances of Saint Saens’ elegant melodies are particularly flawless as wild berries, juicy cherries and a hint of molasses coat the palate. John Williams’ recording of the Adagio from “Concierto de Aranjuez” brings out more of the spicy and earthy flavors in this Pinot, while his interpretation of Satie’s “Gnossienne No. 1” highlights the softer berry flavors.
Every concert must have a finale—and the Paul Dolan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a big finish, indeed! Classic cabernet, with big bold aromas and flavors that pair with Mario Lanza’s soaring love ballades and the bombastic Valdimir Horowitz rendition of Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever”. Turn the volume up a hair for Lanza’s “Because you’re Mine”—take several sips and the lyric “that isn’t thunder dear, its only my poor heart you hear, and its applause” could as easily apply to the wine’s cherry, cola and vanilla flavors as it does to the kiss the song refers to. Notes of anise and brown sugar round out this classic wine.
Whether you choose to listen to each album individually or put all 5 albums in your stereo on shuffle, the classics of music are perfectly paired with wine’s “Greatest Hits”.
